US to withdraw military intervention in Libya

i America is to support Libya and  return back from its decision for military intervention in the country. The United States is to follow the strategy of removing warplanes from Libyan front, revealed a NATO official on Monday.

The plan has been envisaged in the wake of high criticism of US actions on Libyan issue in the Congress. Turkey and Italy took initiative recently to secure a ceasefire in Libya and offered aid to rebels. The changeover in US strict strategy toward Libya seems to be an immediate response to these initiatives.

The international community took initiative to intervene in Libya following the continuous mass-level demonstration in the country to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi’s government.  The White House changed its policy from Monday regarding its role in the Libyan crisis. Now the other nations France, the United Kingdom and NATO are left to participate more actively in the Libyan fiasco in terms of making aerial strikes against Gaddafi supporting security forces.

Though formal declaration regarding America’s stepping back from military intervention is yet not been made, it is expected to implement the same in two-three days.  However, the United States has clearly stated that it would continue to help the global community with Awacs surveillance and planes for supervising the situation.

Pro-Gaddafi forces refuse to follow ceasefire in Libya

Pro-Gaddafi forces refuse to follow ceasefire in Libya

Libyan crisis does not seem to reach any end so far. The call for ceasefire by the outrageous rebellions who have been continuously fighting with the pro-government security forces has been rejected. The forces did not leave the cities despite demonstraters’ demand for the same.

Gaddafi government’s spokesperson Mussa Ibrahim called it a madness of the rebellions to ask pro-government forces to withdraw from their own cities in Libya.

The rebellions called for a ceasefire after the pro-government security forces suppressed them violently amidst the air strikes by NATO forces in support. However, despite the pressure of international community and direct intervention by the NATO-led forces, Gaddafi’s stand against the rebellions has not changed a bit.

Mustafa Abdel Jalil, a representative of the anti-Gaddafi rebellions in Libya stated that pro-government forces should step back fromwestern cities as per their demand for ceasefire, however there was no response to this call from Gaddafi’s side and the security forces continued their oppression against the protesters.

The rebellions proposed for ceasefire following an statement by Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that the NATO-led international security forces would not accompany the US jets.

So far the United States has sent 90 aircrafts to support Libyan rebellions. Following their withdrawal from Libya, only NATO-led coalition would remain at Libyan front. This includes Qatar, UAE, Sweden, France and UK with 193 aircrafts altogether.

Libyan rebels hope to gain information from defecting foreign minister

Libyan opposition members and rebellions are optimistic to get some strategic details from the defecting minister of Gaddafi’s government. The rebellions’ party Transitional Council has started contacting Moussa Koussa, who has rebelled against the Gaddafi regime citing oppression against the demonstrators.

The minister’s rebel from the government is being considered as an indication of the end of Gaddafi’s rule.

Moussa Koussa knows a great deal about 1988 Pan Am] Lockerbie bombing and approaching him, the rebellions hope to get more factual information to fledge the autocratic Libyan ruler and win the confidence and support of the international community.

And he is watching carefully, revealed a rebel, Awad Juma. Ali Treki, who refused replacing Libyan representative in the United Nations, has also declared his protest by resigning from Gaddafi’s government. Juma added that this clearly shows the beginning of fall of Gaddafi after being in power for 42 years.

The rebellion further stated that Gaddafi was ruling Libyan people at gunpoint. He has suppressed every person who opposed or tried to opposed his acts and put leaders under pressure by targeting their families.

Robert Gates U.S. Defense Secretary has continuously opposed assisting the NATO-led coalition of international security forces to assist the Libyan rebels and save them from atrocities of pro-Gaddafi forces.

US administration’s strategy ‘not clear’ over Libyan Issue

US administration maintains international security forces are working in Libya only to establish peace and for humanitarian purpose. The Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi has fled from the country following mounting pressure from the anti-government rebellions and international community.

The role of the United States in any overseas operation involving UN security Council, international security forces has however not been just for humanitarian purposes so far especially since Obama came in power.

The NATO-led military mission has now taken full control over Libya and now the difference among diplomats over Libyan issue is quite evident in the Congress.

Though Obama retains that arming the Libyan rebellions against the autocratic ruler Gaddafi could also be considered as an option however it was yet not been followed as NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet refused.

The opposition Republicans severely criticized Robert Gates, defense secretary, Adm. Mike Mullen, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman over America’s role in Libya.

The US president stated that the military action launched in Libya was aimed to avoid a massacre by the pro-government security forces in Libya.

However, Gaddafi’s military force used anti-aircraft vehicles to counter US air strikes and it became impossible for the international forces to differentiate Gaddafi’s forces from the civilians.

The Republicans has raised their eyebrows over US decision to handover Libyan mission fully to NATO forces after 12 days of operation. Obama still refuses possibilities of sending any ground troop to Libya and there has been no time limit set for the NATO-led mission.

NATO takes stern steps to stop Pro-Gadhafi forces’ suppression in Libya

Gadhafi’s supporters continue to suppress rebels in Libya. They are being assaulted in the cities which rebels had taken under their control—Misrata and Zintan. Allied forces and NATO are continuing their attacks to stop Gadhafi supporters’ torture against rebellions. Tripoli witnessed continuous explosions and anti aircraft fire on Wednesday.

According to the reports NATO has brought its warships off Libya Coast with UN arms embargo. NATO is also trying to impose flight restrictions on Libya following the declaration of no-fly-zone. The reports regarding NATO forces’ attack came after Gadhafi’s fierce criticism against the international military actions against his supporters.

Gadhafi recently reiterated his promise to fight against the unrest by the rebels and interference from international communities.

The Libyan president declared in a public appearance that the country is ready for the battle. He further said that it would not matter for Libya whether the battle was short or long and Libya was ready to give reply.

Gadhafi fledged international forces for their military attacks on his supporters and efforts for implementing no fly zone over Libya. He stated that it was a crusade against Islam religion. The speech was broadcast live by a state television channel in Libya.

NATO refutes US troops mulling raids in Pakistan

Kabul, Afghanistan: The coalition forces in Afghanistan has denied the media reports that US military wants to boost special activities and raids in the tribal regions of Pakistan to get hold over the extremists launching attacks on allied troops working in adjoining border areas of Afghanistan.

While denying the report published in a leading US daily, NATO’s deputy chief of communications, U.S. Rear Adm. Gregory Smith, clarified on Tuesday that the report was baseless and there was no validity in it whatsoever.

Earlier the published report had gathered a huge attention in which it mentioned that the NATO forces were thinking of launching raids in Pakistan’s tribal areas to catch militants taken refuge there to protect themselves.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s envoy to the US Husain Haqqani said that Islamabad would not allow any foreign military crossing its border and its forces were capable enough to teach lessons to extremists operating in the tribal areas. He further said that Pakistan was ready to give all possible supports to the allied forces fighting war against terror but under no circumstances would want to see foreign army on its soil.

Haqqani further said that chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen went on a visit to Pakistan and appreciated its efforts and contributions in a global war on terror; during his trip, he never gave any indication of NATO troops’ special activities in Pakistan.

US Claims Security Situation Improving in Afghanistan

US expresses confidence that the security situation is finally improving in Afghanistan.

The United States consider its strategies are ‘working’ in Afghanistan. Robert Gates, US defense secretary, Robert Gates stated while addressing American troops in the country and hoped that the troops could be pulled out by 2014.

Gates accepted that more soldiers were being killed from both NATO and Afghan forces but assured for improvement in security situations.

However, General David Petraeus, chief of NATO forces suggested US president to delay removing American Troops from Afghanistan.

Gates expressed his optimism regarding Afghanistan while addressing a press conference in Kabul and predicted that the American troops might achieve their goal in coming few months and situation may improve in near future. The Afghan war has cost too much to the United States in terms of number of soldiers killed as well as money spent on military expenses. The Bush administration was highly criticized over its reluctance to pull off American forces from Afghanistan. Gates expressed regret over the casualties both NATO and Afghan forces suffered so far and said that their sacrifices would bring safety and security to the US and Afghanistan.

The NATO forces are losing their global support base gradually due to prolonged war in Afghanistan due to rising death toll. The Americans have paid too much for their campaign against terrorism or so call ‘war on Terror’ envisaged by former President George Bush.
