Two suicide attacks strains relations between U.S. and Pakistan

Two incidents of bomb attack in Pakistan that killed about 80 recruits are straining the relations between Pakistan and USA. The Taliban is claiming responsibility for the twin attack. They said that the attack is in retaliation to the death of Osama Bin Laden from the hands of Americans.

The attack was targeted on constabulary that has just concluded their six months training in Pakistan; the group was trained as part of the campaign to help Pakistan to respond to the threats of terrorism in the country. This particular attack is the worst to be recorded this year in the country. The attack is trying to cause diplomatic row between Pakistan and America. America has always believed that Pakistan is not responding properly to the demand of international community on the global war against terror. The recent killing of Osama Bin Laden in the country seems to have reinforced that believe.

The local population is worried on the escalating terror attack in the country after the killing of Osama Bin Laden in May 2. They were not happy that the US could take the unilateral decision to carry such attack without confiding to the authorities in Pakistan. Pakistan government is also not happy with the action of the US government.

Oil prices compel Obama to raise production

The high cost of oil has forced President Obama to review the oil production policy of the country by increasing the volume of oil production. It is apparent that Americans are frustrated with the increasing cost of oil.

The oil drilling companies have also attacked the government oil drilling policy. The president said in his weekly address to the country that he is setting up a committee to investigate the cause of the skyrocketing oil prices.

The committee to determine it is as a result of any manipulation or fraud. The price of gasoline has gone up to $4 a gallon. He is therefore calling for the elimination of the subsidies that are currently enjoyed by the oil producing companies.

There is a debate going on in the congress over the new direction of the country’s oil policy. The Democratic Party is proposing annual tax breaks of $2billion for the five big oil producing companies in the country. This is a legislation that is opposed by the Republican Party.

The US president said that the oil production in the country has reached its highest level in the country since 2003. The president said that there is the need to increase the oil production in the country and raise the level of environmental standard and safety in the country.

Mississippi floodgate troubles Cajun County

Mississippi flooding has led to the opening of the Morganza floodway in Louisiana. This is causing troubles for the Cajun county because it is sending floods from Mississippi river.

The option to open the waterway was to forestall impending flooding which was forecast by the National Weather Service which estimated that the flow of the river would be more than 1.5 million cubic of water per second. The city levee would not be able to carry such a volume of water. The other option that was left was to open the floodgate to make for the increase in the water volume.

But few minutes of opening the gate the water started causing havoc by flooding the river basin. This has put the river in the state to be under serious pressure. This pressure is believed will continue to be for a long time to come according to the president of the Mississippi River Commission Major Gen Walsh. He promised that the river would be given what it needs. The flooding is posing a challenge to the waterborne commerce.

This has led to the closing of the bridge which is the major source of outlet outside the bridge and the closure would continue to be there until the total inspection is complete.

Syria opts to dialogue as the protests continue

Syrian government is set to dialogue with the opposition which is spearheading the ongoing protests in the country. This seems to be the only option that is left for the government after the Syrians continue their protests despite the deployment of troops and tanks. This is a conviction that the government is feeling the impact of the protests.

Thousands of Syrians poured to the streets on Friday after the prayers to push forward their demand for regime change in the country. The crackdown on the protesters has continued and it was reported that about six protesters were killed on Friday in different parts of the country. This incident occurred in interior locations in the country. The Syrian government adviser said that the death toll was low because the protests this time around is more peaceful as opposed to the other times when the protests used to be violent. The adviser said that the government recognizes the difference between peaceful protests and armed protests saying that the law enforcement never attacked peaceful protesters.

She said that the protesters are now conducting themselves peacefully and that the government is going to look into the grievances and discuss with them. This is the first time the government is soft pedaling from their hard lined positions on the protests.

The report of his attack was denied by the government. Gadhaffi boasted that he is in place where the NATO bomb can never reach him.

The Colonel was reacting to a statement that was credited to the prime minister of Italy that Gadhaffi is probably wounded in one of the raids or that he is hiding in one of the bunkers in his compound. The day before the italian minister spoke to the press one of the raids was reported to have hit a place that is believed to be a bunker where Gadhaffi was hiding.

Both the italian minister and the US could not confirm that Gadhaffi was hit in one of the NATO attacks. The NATO was carrying out a resolution that was carried out by the UN against Libya for using brute force against the opposition in the country which were demanding for a regime change. Since the operation began NATO has been in the battle for about two months now and the rebels are far from taking the upper hand in the battle but NATO has made rearkable success in dislodging Gadhaffi from some of the earliers it has reclaimed from the rebels.
