Libya Accuses NATO of instigating humanitarian crisis

The Libyan government has accused NATO of causing huge humanitarian crisis in the country. It said that NATO had carried out different attacks in three ports in the country. The government said that this action would result in mass migration which would cause humanitarian crises in the country.

It would be recalled that NATO forces had targeted warships that are within the ports and destroyed them. These ports where the warships were destroyed were in Tripoli. The NATO said that the attack was good because Gadhafi is using it to deploy mines using the naval ships. The spokesman said that the attack was in order to stop Gadhafi from using the naval might against the people.

The Libyan government accused NATO of violating the UN resolution which prohibits the use of dangerous weapons against the civilian population. However the NATO spokesman said that it is not true that they used dangerous weapons adding that there was no repot of any loss of live.

He stated the attack was justified. He said that Gadhafi is using dangerous weapons against the civilian population. He said that he has been laying mines which eventually end up killing some people especially in Mirada and some other parts of the country.

ICC warrants not to stop NATO strikes in Libya

The coast is becoming clearer for the arrest of Libyan leader Col Moamar Gadhafi with his possibility of being his name being added to the wanted least of the International Criminal Court.

There is the likelihood that the court could yield to the demand that warrant of arrests could be issued for him and some of his family members. If that is done it can change the role of NATO in the crisis. NATO has so far restricted its operations to the targeting of military installations inside Tripoli. If the warrant is issued then NATO may decide to target Gadhafi personally.

ICC prosecutor is seeking for warrant of arrest against Gadhafi his son and the chief of security intelligence in that country for what they he described as crime against humanity against the people of Libya committed by the three men. Issuing the attack will arm NATO with the authority they have been looking for to commence infrastuructural targets in that country.

The warrant when issued would definitely not make great impact among the citizens of Tripoli but it will change the face of the war especially as regards to NATO attacks because Gadhafi could become the direct targets. The warrant of arrests would further isolate Gadhafi from the rest of the world.

Pakistan to cut NATO’s Afghan supply line following Bin Laden’s death

The death of Osama Bin Laden in the hands of American Navy Seals is forestalling the NATO efforts in Afghanistan. The security of the NATO supply line to Afghanistan may be cut by Pakistan if the threat of Pakistan is anything to go by. The lawmakers in Pakistan vetoed all the ties with the United States of America.

The lawmakers unanimously voted against the relations with the United States of America and condemned the US May 2nd attack that led to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. The lawmakers wanted the country to review its ties with US warning against such unilateral attack on the country by America in future.

The lawmakers also urged the government of the country to cut the NATO supply line to Afghanistan. The US is responding by sending a US law maker Senator Kerry to Pakistan to do what he knows how best to do.

The government in Pakistan is very fragile and it is hoping that the military will help it to stabilize in office till the term in office expires. The relation between US and Pakistan nose dived after the death of Osama Bin Laden in the hands of Americans who invaded the country without the knowledge of Pakistani security forces.

Gaddafi challenges NATO to find out hiding

The Libyan leader Col Moamar Gadhaffi has said that he would outlive the NATO bombardment of the captial Tripoli. He said this admist the report that he was injured by such NATO attack. The report of his attack was denied by the government. Gadhaffi boasted that he is in place where the NATO bomb can never reach him.

The Colonel was reacting to a statement that was credited to the prime minister of Italy that Gadhaffi is probably wounded in one of the raids or that he is hiding in one of the bunkers in his compound. The day before the italian minister spoke to the press one of the raids was reported to have hit a place that is believed to be a bunker where Gadhaffi was hiding.

Both the italian minister and the US could not confirm that Gadhaffi was hit in one of the NATO attacks. The NATO was carrying out a resolution that was carried out by the UN against Libya for using brute force against the opposition in the country which were demanding for a regime change. Since the operation began NATO has been in the battle for about two months now and the rebels are far from taking the upper hand in the battle but NATO has made rearkable success in dislodging Gadhaffi from some of the earliers it has reclaimed from the rebels.

Libyan crisis lingers

It was the famous British author Agatha Christie who warns more than a decade ago that war never settles anything but brings agony to both the victor and the vanquished.

The scenario could be said to be the situation that is currently taking place in Libya where the rebels in that country are lucked in war with the government of Colonel Moamar Gadhafi. The international community tried to intervene in the crisis through the UN resolution that seeks to protect the civilian populations in Libya.

NATO took up the campaign to enforce the UN resolution against Libya. For more than 40 days that NATO had intervened in the war Col Gadhafi still holds to power. The rebels are unable to push much despite the support from the NATO. While the two sides in the conflict are punching their fists over who will carry the day, it is the Libyan civilians that are at the receiving end of the entire crises. The intervention of NATO in the war was to protect the civilians whom the government of Libya has turned its weapons against.

The truth is that whether we accept it or not the war in Libyan is taken its toll on the Libyan civilians and the more it rages the more the people suffer for it.

NATO insists Gadhafi not target of air strikes

NATO has thrown more light on the air strike that killed the son of Libyan leader Colonel Moamar Gadhafi. The NATO officials maintained that the air strike that killed the Libyan Leader’s son was not targeted at Gadhafi but to a military control center that was located in the country’s capital Tripoli. It said that the strike was never an assassination attempt as being insinuated in some quarters.

In a statement NATO described the air attack as “a known command and control building.” The NATO official who is at the head of the military air strike against Gadhafi Lt Gen Charles Bouchard said that the reported death of Gadhafi son and grandson could not be confirmed.

He maintained that the air campaign against Gadhafi is not targeted at individuals but at military institutions.

It would be recalled that Libyan officials said that the Saturday’s air attack in Tripoli has caused severe casualties including the death of Gadhafi son and grandson. The government official said that Gadhafi escaped death narrowly during the air strike.

However NATO had maintained that all its attacks are against military installations. It said that Gadhafi has built military sites at residential areas. NATO had intervened in the war in Libya to protect the Libyan population against attack by the Gadhafi led government. Gadhafi has been in power for more than four decades.

Rebellions welcome coalition forces’ armed aircraft in Libya

US President’s decision to deploy armed aircraft has been welcomed by the Libyan citizens. They were overwhelmed with US initiative to stop killing of civilians and hoped that NATO-led coalition forces would soon overtake the pro-government security forces.

Barack Obama justified the use of  armed Predator drone aircraft by the coalition forces against Gaddafi supporting Libyan forces to speed up their mission to save rebellions in Libya, stated Robert Gates, the US Defense Secretary.

US delegates visited Libya after sending two predatoaicraft to minimize thi mission citing the bad weather. McCain, top opposition leader and member of Senate Armed Service Committee stated that he had talked with the  the Libyan rebellions’ government– Transitional National Council, in Benghazi. McCain admired the rebellions’ fight against the autocratic ruler Gaddafi and called them as heroes.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Baghdad Adm. Mike Mullen,  aso gave similar views on the condition of Libyan crisis. He stated that the continuous air strike by the US military and coalition forces have compelled the pro-government forces to step back and their strength has reduced.

Mullen told the US military deployed in Baghdad that the US forces would soon defeat Gaddafi’s supporters and he would be thrown out of power very soon. However, Mullen was not sure when exactly this target would be be achieved.

NATO warns civilians to stay away from military areas in Libya

The international community’s mission led by NATO has issued a warning to the Libyan rebellions to stay away from the military areas so that their air strikes target the Gaddafi-supporter security forces only. The international forces are continuously attacking the Libyan military areas by air strikes, however want to protect civilians from them.

The United Kingdom and France blamed NATO for not caring enough to protect civilians during air strikes, following which NATO-led international security forces have issued this warning to the Libyans to stay away from the military action areas.

An anonymous official revealed that the NATO had declared on April 20 regarding their determination to pressurize Gaddafi-supporting Libyan forces to protect the civilians. They would continue to attack the Libyan military until they stop suppressing the rebellions, stated Lt. Gen. Charles Bouchard, commander of NATO’s Libyan operations.

NATO’s next strategy will be to increase airstrikes against the pro-government security forces and target Tripoli and surrounding areas.

However, the main concern of the international community will always be to avoid civilian casualties due to air strikes so that Gaddafi does not take advantage of a ‘propaganda victory.’

The NATO-led international security forces are not seeking any additional help from the US military, revealed the official. The US airplanes are attacking Libyan military’s air defense sites but NATO has not asked for any ground assistance. In fact, there is a probability of US pulling back its military from the entire Libyan mission.

UK premier criticizes UN resolution on Libya

UK prime minister disagrees with the UN resolution on Libya calling it a restriction against the global community’s mission to protect civilians in the country.

David Cameron stated that it would constrain the NATO-led coalition power in protecting civilians against the atrocities by the Pro-Gaddafi security forces in Libya. However, he justified the restrictions at the same time.

According to the Libyan rebellions, more than 6 people have been killed on Sunday during a clash between security forces and rebellions in Misrata. The opposition members are continuously protesting against the autocratic leader Colonel Gaddafi and asking him to resign. The pro-government security forces fiercely suppressed the rebels and regained control over their stronghold recently, despite international efforts to protect the civilians.

The British premier further stated that despite the fact that the coalition forces were there to protect civilians’ lives, he could not say it was wrong to implement new UN Resolution on Libya, however it was certainly restricting them.

Cameron also stated that the resolution would block the mission that was began to take over control from pro-Gaddafi Libyan forces who were making the life of people miserable in Misrata and coastal areas of Libya.

Camerron emphasized on putting continuous pressure over Libyan ruler to agree for a peaceful settlement, which could also include giving some relief to Gaddafi.
