Human Rights Abuses Clinton chides Turkey

The United States Secretary of State Mrs. Hilary Rodham Clinton has criticized Turkey over its slide in human rights. She also talked about Turkey taking action to enhance the secular tradition. Mrs. Clinton noted that Turkey support is very important to the success of American goals in the Middle East.

Mrs. Clinton condemned the arrests of journalists by the moderate Muslim country and also chided it for curbing religious freedom in the country. she said that the country had gone far in the observation of human rights and advised that the country should recommit itself to the goal of modernization and democratic values saying that Turkey should serve as an ideal to other Arab nations which are now facing situation of instability as a results of revolts. Mrs. Clinton who was addressing the press in the company of the Turkish Prime Minister advised other countries in Arab and North America to learn from Turkey experience stressing that stability can only come through responsible leadership.

She used the opportunity to urge the Turkish people to use the constitutional reform process to address other remaining issues about human right such as freedom of expression and religion and ensure the protection of minority’s rights.

Clinton Praises Opposition in Syria

The United States Secretary of State Mrs. Hilary Clinton is full of praises for the opposition forces who gathered in Turkey capital Istanbul to seek for collaboration in ousting of president Bashar al-Assad. Mrs. Clinton who was in Istanbul was proud of what the Syrian People are doing on their own to bring reform in their country.

Earlier the leader of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood Movement said that the opposition in the country is going to dethrone the government of the country. He said that what is required is for international community and the Arab countries to withdraw the support and recognition they are according to the government. Ali Sadr Bayanuni stated this when he was speaking to Al Jazeera, he said that foreign countries should withdraw their diplomats from the country. He said that the government of the country has committed crimes against people of the country.

Sources close to the country reported that tens of thousands of Syrians took to the street on Friday but about 32 of the protesters were killed by the Syrian security forces. Commenting on the protests that was carried out yesterday Mrs. Clinton described it as the largest since the unrest started, he advised the government to hearken to the demand of the people of the country.

Explosions Hits Libyan Capital Tripoli

Libyan state owned television reported that NATO air strikes have hit several parts of the capital Tripoli. Worst hit according to the report is the eastern suburb of Tajoura. The television reported that there were military and civilian casualties. These attacks occurred early Sunday morning.

Residents of the city of Tripoli reported flashes and smokes in the eastern part of the capital in early hours of Sunday. NATO air attack comes three days after Libyan leader Col Moamar Gadhafi had boasted that he would never surrender to the foreign forces trying to topple his government.

The leader spoke to his supporters in Zawiga where he promised them that he would keep on fighting the rebels and their foreign allies. He said that the country is giving their children as martyrs adding that they cannot backtrack on the fight against the rebels and their foreign supporters. The speech was one of the rare instances he has talked to his supporters.

NATO was in Libya to carry out UN mandate against Libyan government which was using extreme forces against the civilian elements of the population who were protesting to have Gadhafi out of power. There are criticisms about NATO attack; there are instances of confirmed report of civilian casualties.

Obama: It is Time to Pass Debt Deal

The president of the United States of America Barack Obama is asking for the largest deal in deficit reduction which is part of his strategy to increase the debt ceiling. President Obama spoke to the press today.

The president said that he will continue to appeal to the congress to allow for the largest possible deal. He said that it is possible to shelve their political differences to put forward a package that is balancing. The president was very optimistic that the congress would pass the deal before the end of the month. He said that congress will do it and that the ball could be set rolling by 2nd of August.

President Obama and his economic team had warned of dangers that could befall the US and the global economy should the congress fail to increase the debt ceiling. The Republican Party has been opposing the move arguing that the only condition they can do that is if the government will create a deficit and debt reduction plan before they will allow the $14.3 trillion that the government is asking for debt ceiling.

While the president is seeking for a deal of $4 Trillion for a decade the Republicans are canvassing a contrary opinion. The House Speaker John Boehner had advocated a mid sized reform of $2 trillion without tax as the solution.

States Revenues Increases as gaps Budget remain

As the financial year in the United States of America ended reports that emanated from the states indicated that the revenue of most of the states increased but the problem of gap in budget was an issue in many of the states. The financial position was released on Monday.

The report that was released by Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, about 28 states in the United States of America have positive result on tax collection as they reported that the tax collection was above their expectation within the past financial year. The report also indicated that there is an increase in corporate profit which is as a result of the fact that many individuals, families including wealthy individuals fulfilled their obligations which made it possible for the income to be more than was expected in many of the states.

Most states in the United States of America end their fiscal year in June 30th. The worst of the economy was reported in 2007 to 2009 period when the world witnessed one of the worst economic recessions in history. Most states during that period could not meet their income targets and some failed on their obligations.

However, the increase in revenue to the states could not close the gap that is witnessed in budgeting. Most of the states are expressing interests not hike tax as well as the federal government which means that most of the states have to cut down on some of their expenses.

Supporters of Syrian President attack US and French embassies

The crisis in Syria has taken another dimension with the supporters of the president Bashar al-Assad attacking the embassies of United States of America and France that are located in the capital Damascus.

The United States Department of State has already reacted to the development and accused the Syrian government of failing to protect its embassy. US government demanded compensation from the Syrian government although there was no casualty in the incident.

Workers in the French embassy were wounded when the supporters of the president attacked the embassy. Guards attached to the French embassy fired on the air to dispel the rioters.

This incident occurred after the ambassadors of the United States of America and France visited the restive town of Hama last week. The ambassadors of both countries visited Hama separately and they expressed their solidarity with the protesters who have being protesting to overthrow the government of President Assad.

This seemed to have angered the supporters of the president as they staged a protest at the embassies of the two countries. French government officials have said that 3 of the workers were hurt by the protesters. The French government described the attack as against international law. The spokesperson said that guard fired on the air to dispel the rioters.

Heats intensifies in Southern and Central and Southern USA

Heat intense in some states in central and Southern USA is on the increase. The worst of the increase is recorded in Dallas and Oklahoma where the heat is reported to have increased to 100 degree in the last one week. The situation could worsen as experts have warned that the situation could deteriorate in the days to come.

Most people could not control the heat by taking dip. Bad economy has caused some of the swimming pools in the states to short town because of the cut in budget. The intense heat situation has made heat advisories to issue warning of impending heat increase in the country. In areas like Hutchinson, the intensity of the heat has reached 103 by Monday after it hit 112 on the previous day. The situation in Joplin is like the other parts of the country where the intensity of the heat has reached 99 after reaching the figure of 103 the previous day. This is the first time the states have recorded such high incidence of heat since 1936.

The situation in Dallas is worrisome because the intensity of the heat has not abetted for the past 10 days. The worst is that there is little or no hope of rain coming down to cool the temperature.

South Korea Pressurized for Profit Taking

Seoul shares were range bound on Friday despite positive U.S. employment and retail data, pressured by profit-taking and caution ahead of a critical payrolls report.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was up 0.01 percent at 2,180.74 points as of 0301 GMT.

“There is caution ahead of the expiry of options next week. The market is likely to take a breather next week after recent gains,” said Hana Daetoo Securities analyst Lee Joon-seong.

Refiners gained ground after U.S. crude futures ended 2 percent higher on Thursday, as data on better-than-expected private sector hiring, jobless claims and retail sales reports fueled hopes for an economic rebound.

“Refiners can raise product prices based on higher oil prices, which will help improve their earnings,” said Daewoo Securities analyst Park Yeon-jun.

SK Innovation jumped 3.3 percent, while GS Holdings Corp climbed 4.4 percent and S-Oil Corp was up 3 percent.

Tech counters were mixed after falling in the previous session. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd rebounded 0.7 percent, while LG Electronics Inc eased 0.6 percent.

On Thursday, technology bellwether Samsung Electronics forecast a 26 percent fall in second-quarter profit, clouding the outlook for the sector bracing for its earnings season late this month.

Hynix Semiconductor Inc firmed 2.1 percent after a media report that SK Telecom Co Ltd planned to bid for a controlling stake in the world’s second-biggest memory chipmaker. A spokesman for parent SK Group said SK Telecom was likely to make a solo bid for Hynix, although a final decision had not been made.

KB Financial Group Inc rose as much as 3.6 percent after unit Kookmin Bank said on Friday that it had sold a 9 percent stake worth $1.7 billion in its parent group within the offered price range.

Chinese Exports increased in June 2011

Chinese custom agency has released report on the performance of the country’s import and export trade. The highlight of the report indicated growth on both aspects of Chinese trade. The report indicated that the level of exports in the country grew by about 17.9 percent in June. This is also an improvement from what used to be the rate of export in the previous year.

The report also indicated the volume of imports in the country has increased to 17.9. The custom report further indicated that the country has a trade surplus of $22.3 billion within the period under review. This figure is more than trade surplus of $13.1 that was recorded in May.

The meridian economic forecast for the country was put at 18.7 it was further forecast that the level of imports for the country will grow by 25.0 percent. This will lead to a trade surplus of $16.3 billion. According to the data that was released by the custom agency the highest level of export that is attained in the country is February where the volume of export was 35.8 the least that was recorded in the year was January where 2.4 was the level of export.

Malaysian police Release Children in kindergarten

Police in Malaysia has freed over 30 children kindergarten children who were held hostage by a man in southern state Johor. The man who was holding the children and four of their children hostage was shot by police after an operation that lasted for about six hours. At the end of the operation the police was able to release all the children and their teachers unharmed.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital in the city after sustaining injury on his head following police shooting. This was revealed to the press by Rahman Jalaluddin Abdul. He is a senior police officer in Southern Johor state. According to this police officer all the 30 children were in the age range of 3 to 5 years.

However the officer could not disclosed the identity of the man who committed the offence saying that he did not have the permission to speak to the press on the matter. He disclosed however that the man entered the school compound with a machete and hammer on both hands. The children and their teachers had to take refugee in two storey building.

All attempts for the man to release the children without any incident proved abortive according to the police because the man has insisted that the police had to issue him gun before he departs all he will have to kill all the children.
