Turkey flays Syrian President for appointing brother in military

The Syrian president Bashar Assad is using the vast security apparatus of the military to deal with the popular uprising against his government. He said to heavily rely on the army division that is commanded by his brother Maher Assad to quell the uprising against him.

This development is not going well with some neighboring countries especially turkey. The Turkey government is reported to have sent powerful envoy to Syria with a letter to the Syrian President Assad asking him to remove his brother Maher Assad from the fourth division commander and presidential guards.

The aim of Turkey according to report is to make it known to President Assad that even if the people of Syria will accept his reforms that they will not accept the activities of his brother Maher Assad. The president is relying on the heavy military assault against the civilians by soldiers that are commanded by his brother to hold to power. It is reported that more than 1000 anti government protesters have died in Syria as a result of the activities of the soldiers.

The letter from Turkey to President Assad contained series of reforms which it would want Syria to implement. Among the requests is that the Syrian people should have the freedom to protest, to express themselves and the immediate ban on the restriction for the formation of political parties.

South Korean soldier shoots at passenger jet

South Korean soldiers have fired at a passenger plane that was flying from China mistaking it to be a North Korean air liner. This can worsen the tensed relationship between the people living in the peninsula.

The firing of the airline was done by two soldiers who were guarding a post located at Gyodong Island which is about one mile south to the border with North Korea. The plane was approaching the Seoul international airport where it was supposed to land.

The relationship between the two Korean neighbors was at its lowest ebb in the decade when Pyongyang decided to cut all relationships with the government in Seoul. The attacked plane which was said to be a South Korean Asian bound aircraft was fired a total of 99 rounds. The firing was continuous for about ten minutes but the range could not reach the position of the aircraft therefore there was no damage done to the aircraft as a result of the attack.

South Korean officials offered explanation on the incident saying that the soldiers mistook the South Korean Asian passenger plane to North Korean plane. The soldiers reacted that way because they were alerted of a possible action by the north.

Kucinich institutes suit against U.S. over Libya

A member of the US congress Dennis Kucinich has instituted a case at federal court against the US government over its involvement in Libya war. The antiwar rep said that the US has breached the law by engaging in the operations without the approval of the congress. He described the actions of the US government as unconstitutional and pleads with the court to stop the military action.

The law maker was supported in the suit by another anti war law maker Walter Jones who represents North Carolina. He is a long time war critic; he is criticizing the government for sending American soldiers to war in Libya without seeking the approval of the congress. The law makers asked the court to stop the soldiers from engaging in the war saying that the law was violated.

Since the NATO engagement in Libya the congress was critical of the involvement of US without congressional approval and they have been increasingly unease over the involvements.

Congress has passed a resolution asking the white house to furnish them with a report about the war they are waging in Libya. The House speaker had reminded white house the 90 days allowed by law for US soldiers to be in operation without congressional approval was over.

Syrians flee fearing military tanks shifting

As Syrian government continued to roll its military tanks to many parts of the country some residents of Maarat al-Numan have fled their country. The citizens moved as tanks moved to Maarat al-Numan; they are fleeing the homes for the fear that the military will massacre them in their country. The government has also planned to carry out some military operations in the northern part of the country.

Their fear was confirmed when the head of the military political department confirmed that they have planned for an operation in some parts of the country adding that soldiers have surrounded some towns in the northern part of the country.

Major General Riad Haddad confirmed that the action of the military is aimed at flushing out the gunmen who were terrorizing people in the communities. It is not yet clear whether the military had entered the communities but observers said that there is an imminent humanitarian crisis in the area as thousands of people are pouring out from all directions of the city to escape the expected military assault.

People are moving out with all types of household items such as beds, blankets, bed sheet, cooking materials among other things. The Syrian government has been using extreme forces against protesters who are demanding for regime change in the country.

U.S. diplomat to protect Bahrain Detainees

A US envoy had made case for the protection of Bahrain detainees. This appeal is coming on the background of reported abuse of rights of Shiite led protesters who were asking for extensive reforms in the country. The protest led to heavy crackdown in the country. The US government was disturbed over the crackdown and is asking the government to be mindful of human rights of the detainees.

US state department is optimistic that the proposed talk next month between the Sunni led government and the opposition will yield the expected result. The numbers of people who have lost their lives since the crackdown of the protesters started in February were put to about 31 people. Many pro democrats in the country were surprised that the US government is not punishing the Bahrain Monarch for the harsh crackdown of the opposition.

The silence of the US and other Arab nations over the crackdown of the Shiite protesters is for the fact that they are afraid of the role the Shiite regime in Iran is playing in the Arab world. They are afraid the success of Shiites may empower the Shiites in Iran to have more influence in the Arab world. But the Shiites in Bahrain constitute more than 70 percent of the Bahrain population. They claimed that they are being marginalized in all aspects of governance and development of the country.
