US flays Syrian president Assad for failure to implement reforms

The US administration severely criticizes Bashar al-Assad, Syrian president over inability to address the demands of anti-government protesters.

US President Barack Obama stated that his counterpart lacked capacity to run the administration or do anything to calm down people of Syria. The Syrian government has continuously violated human rights in order to suppress the anti-government demonstrators. Despite promising to appease the protesters, Assad has yet not done anything over meeting the demands of people.

The Syrian president has been close with Iran and supported extremist groups — Hamas and Hezbollah. He also opposed Israel continuously but despite isolating Syria, the United States could not interfere much to stop Assad, neither it could give any financial or political pressure on Syria to force it for a bilateral talk with opponents. Assad and his family has ruled over Syria for more than 40 years so far.

US State Department spokesman Mark Toner stated that only the people of Syria could judge their president and his ability to lead the country forward to meet their aspirations. If Assad fails to bring social and economic reforms in Syria, only people can decide whether they want him to continue.

Instead of caring for protesters’ demand, Syrian president faulted them of conspiring and raising dissent among people. Despite his officials’ suggestions Assad retained emergency law to crush his opponents.

President Obama approves arming Libyan rebels against Gaddafi regime

US president approved a secret document that authorized US operations in Libya to assist anti-government rebels with arms.

The document seeks for different ways to help the anti-Gaddafi protesters in Libya through arms and legal help.Though the presidential findings, which Obama approved, does not directly allows immediately giving arms to the rebels but it does pave the way for it in near future.

There has been an official statement issued from the White House declaring that the presidential findings had no comment over intelligence issues related to Libya.

The statement repeated what Barack Obama stated a day before indicating the possibilities of provision of arms to anti-government rebels in Libya to force Gaddafi step down, however it was yet not implemented as a decision.

The statement further clarified that the United States was looking over all the ways and possibilities to reach help to the opposition rebellions in Libya to avoid more killing of civilians by Gaddafi’s suppressive forces. There is a fierce debate over US decision to provide arms to the untrained rebels to fight Gaddafi supporting army in Libya.

The coalition forces including US troops enforced a no-fly zone over Libya trying to force Muammar Gaddafi to resign from his post, however, the Libyan president vowed to suppress the rebels by every mean. To confuse the international troops’ air strikes in support of rebels, Gaddafi’s forces left their tanks and started using pickup trucks and it was now difficult to differentiate troops from rebellions from air.

Barack Obama states that US military interventions in Libya has saved numerous lives there. He said this while addressing the people of the United States on television and emphasized that intervention by the US security forces has helped in avoiding a massacre in Libya.

Obama appealed to the Muammar Gaddafi supporter forces and Libyan people not to support the oppressive ruler anymore and keep struggling for the procedure.

He stated that if the autocratic ruler would not get access to arms and cash and no more support from the people, the international community will find it easy to remove Gaddafi from his post. He added however that the overthrow of the regime might not be so easy as Gaddafi is trying hard to retain his power.

The US president had earlier too expressed his desire to see Gaddifi hand over the Libyan regime to the opposition. He had said so while affirming the UN resolution to declare Libya a no-fly zone.

Though the US president clarified that the international security forces did not aim to target Gaddafi or force him to step down under the pressure of armed US troops. Obama confessed that the United Stated had done so in Iraq by forcing Saddam to step down. He further added that American soldiers and politicians had collectively put lot of efforts to improve Iraq’s condition.

Yamani president to resign following severe demonstrations

Yemen is expecting a power transition after President Ali Abdullah Saleh resigns. The president is negotiation with other leaders showing concern over counterterrorism units and safety of his relatives.

Saleh has been a close ally to the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The negotiation included Gen. Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar’s aide, two opposition leaders beside the president. Gen, Ahmar is a defected leader who supported antigovernment protesters. The capital city Sana had thousands of protesters fighting fiercely with soldiers who were armed with tanks and other weapons to suppress the rebellions trying to overthrow the government.

. The protesters in Sana reiterated their pledge to continue their demonstrations however said that they would try to minimize the possibilities of conflicts with the security forces. The program to march from central Tahir Square to the presidential palace has been postponed

According to some close sources to the negotiators, the Yemeni president was insisting upon quitting only after guarantee of safety for himself and his family. He also wanted to be assured of a transitional authority who can favor him even after stepping down from the president’s post.

Saleh has learned from observing incidents in Egypt, where the former president, Hosni Mubarak after resigning, now faces charges of corruption.

Saleh also demonstrated that he still enjoys control over the security forces as well as support of common people by organizing a rally in the capital city. The broadcast on television showed him challenging the opposition’s capability to take over the power.

Japan is trying hard to control the unprecedented temperature at Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex. The radioactive water is probably leaking from the reactors.

Despite the leakage, the scientists and the workers are still trying to stabilize the hot rods of spent fuel that was lying in the pool and is now under radioactive water. The harmful effects of leakage are ignored in order to control the radiation spread which is considered much more devastating and wide spread.

The workers at the reactor are trying to measure ways to prevent radiation come out into atmosphere however it can not stop it entirely. So, the efforts are concentrated on how to minimize the level, stated a nuclear engineering expert Elmer Lewis, who is a professor at Northwestern University.

The fears of radiation crisis have intensified now with the leakage of radioactive water. Three workers from the nuclear plant have been hospitalized for treatment of radiation burns.

Reports are also revealing that the effect of radiation exposure over skin might reach up to 2000 to 6000 millisieverts. However, the exposure to gamma radiation even for an hour will be deadlier. The current effects are due to shorter-range beta radiation which cause minor skin burns only.

Israeli planes raid targeted smuggling tunnels along the Gaza-Egypt border and training camp run by Hamas. On Wednesday a bomb attack led violence in recent days.

The three air strikes over Gaza, an hour after bomb stuck in west Jerusalem in crowded bus stop, killing one person and wounding 30 authorities in the city, was the first major attack in several years.

On Thursday, Hamas which controls the Gaza Strip said the raid targeted smuggling tunnels along Gaza-Egypt border and training camp in Central Gaza.

The next raid hit a power transformer, which caused blackout. To evacuate their personnel was ordered by Hamas

The two targeted tunnels at the south of Gaza strip by the air force and a terrorist target in Gaza, an Israeli Defense spokeswoman Confirmed. The strikes were recent barrage of rockets

In Jerusalem, Bombing of bus stop after two Grad rockets fired hit from Gaza in the southern Israeli city of Beersheva. A 60 years old woman died in the blast  Al Jazeera’s Nisreen El-Shamayleh reported from Jerusalem.

The reaction is to blame Palestinian groups whenever there is an explosion in Jerusalem but police are investigation .The responsibility of incidence was claimed.

A device was plotted in a bag that was left in phone booth near bus station which exploded when bus passed Micky Rosenfeld, a police spokesman, told Al Jazeera. This attack was not a subside attack.

The Israeli PM, Benjamin Netanyahu warned the militants and not to test the iron will and a tough response vowed to the bombing. PM said Israel will act aggressively before boarding a plane to Moscow.

Gadhafi’s supporters continue to suppress rebels in Libya. They are being assaulted in the cities which rebels had taken under their control—Misrata and Zintan. Allied forces and NATO are continuing their attacks to stop Gadhafi supporters’ torture against rebellions. Tripoli witnessed continuous explosions and anti aircraft fire on Wednesday.

According to the reports NATO has brought its warships off Libya Coast with UN arms embargo. NATO is also trying to impose flight restrictions on Libya following the declaration of no-fly-zone. The reports regarding NATO forces’ attack came after Gadhafi’s fierce criticism against the international military actions against his supporters.

Gadhafi recently reiterated his promise to fight against the unrest by the rebels and interference from international communities.

The Libyan president declared in a public appearance that the country is ready for the battle. He further said that it would not matter for Libya whether the battle was short or long and Libya was ready to give reply.

Gadhafi fledged international forces for their military attacks on his supporters and efforts for implementing no fly zone over Libya. He stated that it was a crusade against Islam religion. The speech was broadcast live by a state television channel in Libya.

The havoc of Japanese Nuclear radiation has put U.S. stocks market in a drain. Falling for the second week, the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index has received its biggest jerk in last few months since August. The reasons behind continuous drop in the index are cited Japan’s nuclear crisis as well as unrest and violence in the Middle East.

Fearing that nuclear radiations from Japanese plants might reach US Coast and mainland, people drew back money from the share market leading to continuous drop in the regional stocks. The global economy is already trumping down due to continuous surge of unrest and political crisis subsequently in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain and in Saudi Arabia.

Federal Reserve’s statement over strength of US banks to boost dividend had led some optimism and stocks have gained recently. Ceasefire in Libya also boosted the minute surge however it again slumped down and General Electric Co. (GE) lost 5.5 percent, this led to further decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Utilities jumped down by 4.3 percent, meanwhile the Japanese firm Tokyo Electric Power Co. continued struggling to control over the looming radiation crisis in nuclear plants.

Minneapolis evacuated following gas line explosion

South Minneapolis witnessed a shooting of fireballs due to a gas line explosion Thursday morning. However, the authorities stated that this was a natural explosion and evacuation of the area was also just a precautionary measure. There have been no news of any injury yet and people are still being evacuated.

According to TV channels reporting the incident flames were seen shooting high in the sky in the mid of Interstate 35W and Highway 62, at 60th Street and Nicollet Avenue.

The video footage also revealed that there were towering fireballs flying in the air, but the officials called it safe.

The blast occurred on Thursday morning in a residential cum industrial area. Emergency team is supervising the situation.

According to Kevin Gutknecht, an official from the Minnesota Department of Transportation on the incident did not occur at Interstate 35W, rather just north of the Highway 62 to avoid distraction to drivers on the road. The flames died out after 30 minutes of the explosion, when the officials closed the gas line.

Under the precautionary evacuation, three Minneapolis public schools, an apartment and a church near the incident location have been evacuated.

There was panic among the residents over the explosion as they feared it might be an atom bomb dropped over the area.

The fire has also damaged some of the power lines, street lights, electric supply poles and vehicles in the adjacent area however there has been no casualty due to the explosion.

People panicked as on Sept. 9 in San Bruno, Calif, a similar natural gas explosion had caused sparking of huge fireball killing eight people. The explosion destroyed dozens of houses near the San Francisco Bay.

China Assists Japan Following Friday Earthquake, Tsunami

Many Chinese nationals are stranded in Japan’s worst affected areas by Friday earthquake. China has taken initiative to evacuate its citizens from the quake areas.

China’s embassy in Japan revealed that they would evacuate Chinese nationals from the areas that might be affected by the damages in nuclear reactors and other surrounding areas.

However, the embassy clearly denied the chances of any radiation being emitted by the nuclear reactors due to damage of cooling system following the quake and tsunami. Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection is continuously supervising the developments at Fuushima Number One Plant, where the cooling system failed after Tsunami.

So far on Tuesday morning the Chinese nuclear safety agency has not detected any abnormal radiation from the reactors.

There was a fear that radiation might spread through winds over the Pacific Ocean and China May remain on the safer side, stated Chinese Meteorological Administration.

There was a slight increase in radiation level in Russia on Tuesday; however it stayed under normal levels, stated Russian authorities.

South Korea also stated that the radiations have remained under normal level so far; however it is taking precautionary measures by keeping vigil over incoming passengers at Incheon airport.

South Korean authorities added that according to the weather forecast, westerly and north-westerly winds were expected to blow to Japan very soon.

China has taken immediate initiative by sending rescuers and aid assistance to Japan after the devastating earthquake of magnitude 8.5 at Rictor scale and tsunami last Friday. President Hu Jintao  and Premier Wen Jiabao expressed deep concerns and sympathy  to Japan despite unfriendly relations with Beijing.
